Sun, sand and Santa Claus

We are in our fourth year of living in Dubai and this will be our third Christmas spent here, having spent last year’s back in the UK. We love spending the festive holidays in the UAE for the gorgeous sunshine, outdoor markets, mornings at the beach, elaborate decorations in the shopping mall and even going to see Santa on a camel in the desert. However, the downside is that it’s not always spent with our families who tend to come out at different times in the year for their own commitments. You have to have nerves of steel when walking around the supermarket listening to the christmas music on the tanoy and seeing families with visiting grandparents and their over excited brood picking out mince pies and oozing a glow of togetherness!! We’ve learnt that Christmas can be any other time of year as what Christmas means to us is spending true quality time with your loved ones and not necessarily about the over indulgence (although of course we do this too) or the abundance of gifts. It’s truly about looking next to you and realising that the greatest gift is family!!

This year we will be spending our Christmas Day with some of our greatest friends who we met in Dubai. Our children are like cousins as they are growing up together and we love them like family. We will be ordering our roast dinner in from a hotel so that there is no pressure on the hosts and have a whole array of arts and crafts planned to entertain the children. We might even have a swim! There are so many activities on offer – despite Dubai being a predominately Muslim country – its just knowing what to pick; pantomimes, Santa’s grotto, tree lighting, ice skating markets and carol singing to name a few!

Wherever you are spending your Christmas – I hope its a happy one and wishing you all a fabulous 2016!! xx
